Probes
A probe reads a system's fixed, signed health checks with no database login at all. In pilot.
In pilot. Probes are built and running against Countdat's own databases. The first production pilot is next. If you'd like to take part, write to sales@countdat.com.
#What a probe is
A probe is a fixed, signed health check that a system answers without a database login. Instead of giving Countdat a database password, your system publishes a few fixed checks - "how full are my database keys?" - and Countdat reads them over one signed request.
#Why use a probe instead of a job
| Scheduled job | Probe | |
|---|---|---|
| Login needed | A read-only database user | None |
| What it sends | Read-only queries you approved | No query at all - one signed request |
| What it can read | Whatever the job's queries select | Only the fixed checks your system publishes |
| Status | Available | In pilot |
#What comes back
Each probe reading becomes rows in a counter, like any other source. Ask questions about it, set alerts on it, and check the working behind every answer.
