What is Countdat?
Countdat turns anything you count into answers you can trust. Here is the idea in two minutes.
Countdat turns anything you count into answers you can trust - tap it, import it or pull it from your systems, then ask it anything in plain English.
#The idea: a counter
A counter is one table of rows about one thing. Everything in Countdat either feeds rows into a counter, watches its rows, or acts on them.
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| In | Taps, a spoken or typed sentence, the Add form, files and scheduled jobs add rows. |
| The counter | Holds the rows, with a record of every change. |
| Out | Answers ("what's the busiest day?"), alerts ("tell me when...") and buttons (close, clear or correct a row). |
The counter knows the subject; Countdat itself does not. There's no built-in idea of coffee or databases - each counter carries its own definition. That's why one product works for a café, an operations team and a fleet of servers.
#Two examples
#Coffee Count
People tap a link when they pour a cup. Ask "What was our biggest coffee day?" and the answer comes back: 7 October, with 9 coffees.
#Key Headroom
Every hour, a job asks each database how close its keys are to their ceiling. Ask "Which table is closest to running out of IDs?" and the answer names it - with the queries behind it.
#Count it, ask it, trust it
- Count it. Tap, import a file, or let a job pull rows in from your own database.
- Ask it. In plain English. The answer is a page with the number, what it means, and charts that show it.
- Trust it. Every answer shows its working - the exact SQL, one click away.
#What Countdat isn't
Countdat is for counting, answering, watching and acting. It isn't a spreadsheet grid, a document editor or a photo tool.
Next: Create your account, then make your first counter.
